What Does The PTO Fund?
With the financial support of Ortega's Community and Families Ortega's PTO is able to provide science, art, computer classes & technology, physical education and an outdoor garden. These classes enhance and build on work done in other areas of study, allow for exploration and research, and build self-esteem, curiosity, teamwork and collaboration with other students. Ortega's PTO also supports the Makerspace and the Library program through fundraisers and volunteer help.
Orteag's Science class provides hands on opportunities to learn more about our world. From biology, chemistry, studying the natural processes of the earth and our universe, children learn and explore while gaining the confidence to make mistakes and experiment to find answers.
Ortega PTO funds the maintenance and programs needed for our computer classroom and instructor.
Classes are able to visit the Computer Classroom 1x/week and our Computer Instructor provides knowledge and maintenance to the chrome books for our classrooms to use.
Ortega's Art Program is 100% funded by the PTO. TK, Kinder, 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th graders spend half of the year (approx. 16 classes) studying and practicing art in Ortega's Art Room for 50 minutes/week.
Students are introduced to 7 art centers: Drawing, Painting, Collage, Sculpture, Ceramics, Printing and Fiber Arts and are given a chance to create and explore each of these areas. Students are allowed to work independently or collaboratively.
Ortega's approach for teaching art is based off of the Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) method and allows students to try many different art styles and mediums and practice more in the ones they enjoy the most.
By giving freedom and guidance, students are able to develop creativity, problem solving and the chance to take risks- all important lifetime skills that deserve much attention and practice.
Children spend time in Ortega's Garden learning about life cycles, soils, weather, math, you name it! It's a great opportunity to learn how to work together to accomplish tasks while also having fun learning.
Ortega's Makerspace provides hands-on creative ways for students to design, experiment, and invent as they engage in science, engineering, art, and tinkering.
The Ortega PTO provides support through volunteers working with Ortega students during lunch time.
