Many of the events, programs, or activities that the Ortega PTO normally hosts will look different in the 2021-2022 school year due to the ongoing pandemic.
Year Round Events
Movie Nights are a great way to get together and enjoy a movie with friends, family, and your Otter community. Past shows have included animated films, comedies, Disney movies, and other family friendly flicks. These fun events are open to the entire Pacifica community!
Outdoor movies are held on the Ortega basketball courts on the north side of campus. Bring your chairs and blankets to spread out and enjoy the outdoor movie environment. Snacks, drinks, and Ortega gear are available for purchase. Indoor movies, when safe, are held in our Multipurpose Room.
Every Wednesday, Ortega kids are delighted to purchase $1 popsicles from our volunteer parents. This Ortega tradition actually raises funds for the Ortega PTO’s art, science, and garden program, but it is such a beloved part of our school’s weekly rhythm that we are listing it as a “School Event”!
ICE CREAM SOCIALS
Ortega's Ice Cream Socials are held throughout the year on the south side of campus. These fun after-school events are thrown to bring the community together for a casual outdoor school party. You scream, I scream, Ortega screams for ice cream!
Ortega's Walk-A-Thon & Carnival is the highlight of many students’ year! The Walk-A-Thon is a fitness fundraiser that takes place in the early afternoon. Students gather pledges prior to the event, then walk around the school earning popsicles and prizes along the way.
After the Walk-A-Thon, the school throws a fun filled carnival with games, bounce areas, food and music. The whole Pacifica community is invited to attend the yearly carnival.**
**Due to circumstances related to the covid pandemic, the 2021 Carnival will be held in the spring of 2022.
Read-A-Thon is an annual event to celebrate literacy while raising money for Ortega. Students ask friends, family, and neighbors to sponsor their reading efforts throughout the month of March.
This fundraiser encourages children to pick up a book and read! Prizes are given to the students in each grade that read the most minutes in the given time frame.
Ortega has talent! All students are welcome to perform in this spring variety show. Practices begin in early January and the performance happens in March. Dancing, singing, magic, comedy, musical instruments - there is no end to the talent Ortega students display during the talent show.
There are 2 performances: a morning show that is held during school and evening show is for family and friends.
THE BASKET AUCTION
Ortega's Basket Auction is a great way to support your school and score some one-of-a-kind auction items. Past items have included hand made ceramics, gift certificates, class passes, sports tickets, and tickets to Bay Area attractions, just to name a few.
Generous local businesses donate items that are either bid on during a silent auction or raffled off. The Basket Auction takes place during Ortega’s Open House. If you own a local business and would like to donate something - reach out to our fundraising team at email@example.com.
Saddle up and mosey on over to Ortega's Hoedown! The Hoedown is a chance to break out the dancing boots and enjoy some school community fun.
The night starts with the 4th and 5th graders dancing the Virginia Wheel. Then a square dance caller teaches the rest of the kids and parents a few moves.
You don't want to miss the music, dancing, and treats.
